BEL Server-Basic (KDE) 1-2

Price: Rp. 20.000

BEL Server-Basic(KDE) is a multi-server implementation of PCLinuxOS. It has been modified to come with many common servers pre-installed, such as apache web server, mysql, postgresql, GroupOffice groupware, DNS, DHCP Postfix email server, Dovecot imap/pop3 server and many many more.

The purpose of BEL Server-Basic(KDE) is to provide an easier than typical experience for the self taught computer admin and small business user to be able to get a small business network and common business tools and resources set up without too much trouble or expense. It is not meant to replace learning, but actually make it so one can learn as they go, getting a functional network setup to put to work while they are learning and making themselves more familiar with the tools they are using.

BEL Server-Basic(KDE) is a fully functioning LAMP server. It has all the components pre-installed and setup to work out of the box.

No more blind installs to see if this will be the server to work for you. Not only are most of these pre-installed, many of them are "pre-configured" as well. at least, as much as they can be to provide a demonstration or basic running server. In many of the cases, all the user needs is to add specific information about their hardware and network and they are ready to go.

Server-Basic(KDE) is ready to work either directly admin from the server machine itself or from a remote computer, almost just as easily.

One of the features added is that the administration tool Webmin has been installed and modified to work on PCLinuxOS. There are a couple of great results of this. One, it offers a "One Stop" configuration shop. of setting up and configuring the various servers and tools. No more having to hunt down an obscure config app or config file. Webmin handles most of the servers in a neatly organized and "centralized fashion. All one needs to do is open the browser.

Webmin is very easy to use and follow in most cases. One needs to fill out the required fields with information about their hardware and network and Webmin takes care of the rest. Webmin is not intended to be the "easy" way to configure and setup servers and tools, but it keeps everything together in one place and presents all the information and asks for everything you will need to get a functional server going. It always helps to do your homework before you start a project like putting up a server, Webmin just helps a lot in getting it done.

Also, for other tools that do not need the special interface of Webmin, or in some cases, are actually easier to use, there is the Server Control folder. In it there are many tools and links to give you immediate access to basic networking apps and tools such as locating and mounting NFS or Samba servers. For those who find DiskDrake not to your liking, GParted, the renowned disk partitioner is available also.

Yet another very nice feature of Server-Basic(KDE) is that it can be run, and we mean every server and tool, from the livecd itself. Not that it is a recommended practice, but there is no better demonstration of a server distros capabilities than to see it in action. In testing, we even had a Server-Basic Cd running in a computer that had no harddrive at all installed in it and ran a webserver and groupware server "GroupOffice" from the livecd, users were able to use and access the server as if it were a normal install. Now that is something you don't see everyday.

The inclusion of Bastille in Server-Basic(KDE) allows admins to "harden" the server. Shutting down all open ports and resources to maintain a safe server. It is one of many ways BEL Servers try to bring a sturdy, stable server that is able to be run by even a new admin.
