Automated Download and Installation of Operating Systems Project (ADIOS) is a Live Linux CD and portable Linux teaching environment for routing, firewall design, and trusted systems.
ADIOS is a Fedora-based live and installation CD with support for User Mode Linux (UML) virtual machines, further enhanced by Linux Intrusion Detection System (LIDS) and Security Enhanced Linux (SELinux).
The objective of the ADIOS Project is to quickly and easily download a consistent operating system environment onto laboratory PCs. The ADIOS environment provides students with administrative privileges so they can undertake advanced-level exercises in Network and Systems Administration.
ADIOS 6.0 was built with Fedora Core 5, Linux kernel 2.6.16, and uses a compressed loopback filesystem. The latest version of SquashFS is used so that the live CD can hold more than 2 GB of files. KDE is the default desktop environment, but UML virtual machines can start an X windows session using the ICE Windows Manager. Selected applications and services are provided to the end user with plenty of scope to learn about Linux. ADIOS comes with a complete Development Kit (ADK) to help you customise your own CD.
