DragonFly adalah sistem operasi dan lingkungan pengembangan didisain sebai penerus seri sistem operasi FreeBSD-4.x. Bermuara dari UNIX, DragonFly serumpun dengan Linux menggunakan API yang sama. DragonFly merupakan fork yang menyediakan alternatif dengan arah berbeda dari seri FreeBSD-5 dst. CD DragonFly adalah 'live', boot dan otomatis login sebagai root tanpa password guna memungkinkan pengguna men-check kompatibilitas hardware sebelum instalasi ke hardisk dimulai.

This release is primarily a maintainance update. A lot of work has been done all over the kernel and userland. There are no new big-ticket items though we have pushed the MP lock further into the kernel.
